It would’ve given them time to clean up the water and fix the place up in general. Remember, it’s winter down there (seasons are opposite in the southern hemisphere)

Brazil is a tropical country just south of the equator. They don't have a winter.

It wouldn’t have made a lot of difference. The country is kinda paralyzed at the moment, with all the political trials and everything. And Rio isn’t exactly swimming in money, so I doubt many improvements would’ve Ben done.
Also the games NEEDED to be held during winter here. Not only the temperature becomes more bearable in Rio, our winters are very dry climate-wise (unlike our summers) so there are much less mosquitos flying around with no rain.
And December is high season in Rio, so everything would even more expensive there.

yeah I know, but I still wish they’d have summer/winter olympics hosted in the southern hemisphere when it’s actually that season down there!
I know when they had the games in Australia, they’d have the “summer” olympics in late September, kind of like a compromise.

It was 72 degrees in Rio. At night. It will be plenty warm. Remember, they were making snow in Vancouver and Sochii.

South Brazil does have a actual winter, sometimes even with snow. But Rio? There are some cities in the state that do get cold in the winter (Petrópolis is a example), but the Rio city is most of the year like someone just opened the gates of hell.

I hear you. The Olympics are still very Eurocentric.

It’s quite normal to make snow for all kinds of winter events now. Here in Norway we even store snow over summer to extend the skiing season. Not always because it’s necessary, but because it makes it more predictable in the sense that they will always be able to hold a planned event if natural snow is absent.

I never really understood the point of summer olympics. The only sports that matter happen in the winter. Summer is just for hiding inside with the a/c cranked waiting until snow falls again.

I can agree with this
